The Syrian Economy is a multi-resources
economy based on agriculture, industry, trade in addition to the oil sector which has
witnessed a great development since 1989 in the fields of oil and natural gas extraction
and has become one of the essential resources for the development of the Syrian economy.
The government takes into its priorities the measures of economic reforms towards deepening the market-oriented economy in all economic activities and in compliance with the requirements of coming stage of development.

The economy system is based on economic pluralism which
first appeared in the early 1970’s as a distinguished attitude for economic sectors
to take part in the development process. The Government is working to deepen this
experiment, which has proved effective within the domestic and international
circumstances, towards further liberalizing main sectors which had been under the control
of the public sector which is being subject to continued efforts to upgrade its efficiency
and regulating its mechanism in a more flexible way.|
